An interview with British designer, Paul Smith

I love wandering through Paul Smith shops around the world to discover something new and surprising. Years ago, we had the pleasure of listening to the amiable Sir Paul Smith at London’s Design Museum talk about his inspirations in life and successful career.

Except from his interview by The Talks

TT: Is it difficult to be viewed as the “nice guy” in the fashion industry because a designer is supposed to have a big ego?

Paul Smith: Well for me personally it’s a lovely thing. But I think if I were more of a distant person, more aggressive or more precious, maybe from a business point of view we’d be seen in the same category as other people who are revered as being top design brands. But we sell our clothes next to all the big design brands like Prada and Balenciaga, we just don’t promote ourselves in that way.
